Individual auditions for current openings will be held by appointment on Friday, August 23, 2019.  Call-back auditions will follow, by invitation, on Tuesday, August 27 between 6:00 and 10:00 p.m.

• Prepare two solo selections from art song, opera, oratorio, or concert folksong repertoire. (You may be asked to sing one or both of your songs in the audition, or portions of each.)

• One selection should be in a language other than English. 

• Selections do not need to be memorized.

• You must sing with accompaniment. An accompanist will be provided.  Please bring an extra copy of your music

• In addition to your prepared pieces, the audition will include vocalizes to determine your range, sight-reading, and pitch-recall. 

Membership is CVAE is select. Singers are required to make a strong personal commitment to our schedule and to our mission to present fine choral music at a high level of excellence.

Regular rehearsals are every Tuesday from 7:15-9:45 p.m. August-May.  Occasional Sunday evening rehearsals are scheduled from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Rehearsals in the summer are scheduled as performance opportunities arise.  Dress rehearsals are mandatory and are usually the day or evening before a performance. 

• Auditions are held annually for vacancies in all sections.

• New members are accepted for a one-year trial period. After the first year, re-audition and evaluation will determine continuing membership.

• After the trial year, all continuing members of all sections re-audition in alternate years.

• In any given year, irrespective of the re-audition cycle, significant areas of weakness or concern, such as poor rehearsal attendance or lack of individual musical preparation, can result in the singer’s place in the group being opened to audition as a vacancy.
